What is RDAP?
The Registration Data Access Protocol (RDAP) is the IETF-standard successor to WHOIS. Instead of unstructured text, it returns consistent JSON over HTTPS, with a documented schema for registrars, events (registration, expiry, last update), nameservers, status codes, and secure DNS. That makes RDAP results more reliable and machine-readable than legacy WHOIS.
Why RDAP results are more accurate
Because RDAP is structured, dates and status codes are returned in standard formats rather than being parsed out of free text that differs from registry to registry. We resolve the correct RDAP server for each TLD via the IANA bootstrap registry, so the answer comes from the registry that is actually authoritative for the domain.
Frequently asked questions
Do all domains support RDAP?
Most modern TLDs do. For the few that have not migrated yet, we automatically fall back to a classic WHOIS query so you still get a result.
Is the RDAP result live or cached?
Results are cached briefly for speed; the lookup always reflects current registration data from the registry.
